The Sherline 8″ Vertical Machine Slide (Metric) is crafted from high-quality 6061-T6 aluminum, enhanced with a durable black anodized finish. This slide features precision-rolled steel leadscrews, ensuring smooth and accurate movement. The leadscrew backlash is adjustable, allowing for precise control and minimizing play during operation. The dovetailed tables and saddles are equipped with adjustable gibs, further enhancing stability and precision.

The handwheels on this metric slide are meticulously graduated in 0.01 mm increments, providing users with fine control over adjustments. The slide is designed for easy mounting, utilizing two 1/4-20 holes located on the bottom of the base, spaced 2.0 inches apart. This configuration allows the table to overhang the edge of the fixture, offering a travel distance of approximately 76.2 mm or more, depending on the mounting height above a parallel surface.

With a weight capacity of approximately 10 lbs, the Sherline 8″ Vertical Machine Slide is robust enough for various applications. Under heavy and constant use, the anodized coating on the dovetail area may begin to show wear after about one year, or 2080 hours of operation. However, the slide remains fully functional, and regular lubrication with light oil can extend the lifespan of the dovetail and screw. The leadscrews feature a hardened rolled thread, and the backlash nuts are made of brass, which is the softer material and thus more prone to wear. The adjustable backlash nut can compensate for wear, maintaining functionality until the threads are completely worn out, typically after the same duty cycle of 2080 hours.
