The Sherline Rigid Column Upgrade – Short Base (“) is specifically designed for users of the 5400-series mill, offering enhanced versatility and functionality. This upgrade includes the 2000-series ram, which features laser-engraved scales available in either SAE or metric measurements. The design provides a large work area and allows for movement in seven different directions, making it a valuable addition for precision milling tasks.

The short column stands at 4 inches tall, matching the height of the regular 2000 mill round column. It is engineered to be compatible with the new mill base, which includes a thru hole for the Y-axis cover tube. This ensures that the column can be securely mounted using the two angled side-by-side 1/4-20 SHCS bolts provided with the new style base. The short base configuration allows for an additional ¼ inch of Y-axis travel compared to the standard 2000 column, enhancing the operational range of the mill.

Note: The mounting hole pattern is not compatible with older style mill bases without modification. Drilling and counterboring are required for adaptation.
