The Sherline Mill Ball Screw XY Axis Retrofit Kit is an advanced upgrade designed to enhance the precision and performance of milling machines. This kit includes critical components such as ball leadscrews, a stepper motor high-torque coupling, and a ball screw mill saddle, which is equipped with a nickel and Teflon plate for improved durability and smooth operation. The ball leadscrew features a rolled ball screw with a BSH nut, offering a 10mm diameter and a 2mm lead, ensuring high accuracy with a C7 rating and a P1 preload for optimal performance.

The retrofit kit is meticulously assembled in the factory, ensuring that all components, including stepper-motor mounts, high-torque couplings, bearings, and preload nuts, are integrated seamlessly. An O-ring is strategically placed on the ball screw to prevent the ball nut from threading off, which could result in the loss of balls from the ball nut and render the ball screw unusable. This O-ring should remain in place until the assembly is fully installed on the machine.

For those upgrading a 12-inch mill, it is necessary to acquire a specific mill column base to accommodate the larger ball screw and brass cover. The kit is designed to be compatible with high-torque stepper motors, which are recommended for achieving the best results.

Note: Ensure the O-ring remains on the ball screw during assembly to prevent damage, and be aware that excessive slop (backlash) in the ball leadscrew is not covered for replacement.
