The Sherline Single-Axis Machine Slide w/ Dovetailed Headstock & Motor, ER-16 (Metric) is a precision-engineered tool designed for meticulous machining tasks. It features a robust steel bed with ground dovetails, ensuring stability and accuracy during operations. The machine slide is equipped with a metric leadscrew, which is precision rolled from steel and positioned beneath the table to protect it from debris. The leadscrew backlash is adjustable, enhancing the precision of the machining process. The industrial handwheel is graduated in 0.01 mm increments, allowing for fine adjustments and precise control.

Mounting the machine slide is versatile, with provisions for both bottom and top mounting. The base includes two holes for bottom mounting, while four angle clamps are provided for top mounting, ensuring a secure and stable setup. The headstock is crafted from extruded 6061-T6 aluminum with a black anodized finish, offering durability and a professional appearance. The ER-16 spindle option provides flexibility for various machining tasks, although collets for the spindle are not included and must be sourced separately.

The machine is powered by a 90-volt DC motor, which delivers maximum torque at low RPM, making it highly effective for machining tasks that require substantial power at lower speeds. The motor operates more smoothly and quietly compared to traditional AC/DC motors. It features a two-step “V” belt pulley system, allowing for adjustments between high-speed, low-torque and low-speed, high-torque settings. The variable speed electronic control ranges from 70 to 2800 RPM, with a load compensating circuit to maintain consistent RPM under varying loads. The motor is compatible with a wide range of power inputs, from 100 VAC to 240 VAC, and includes an eight-foot power cord.

Note: The spindle is designed for light-duty applications and is not intended for high RPM rotation of long or out-of-round parts. It is not fully sealed against dust, which can affect bearing life, and should not be used in a coolant bath.
