The Sherline Lathe Deluxe Vertical Milling Column CNC Ready (“) is an innovative attachment designed to transform a Deluxe lathe into a compact milling machine. This conversion is achieved through a steel dovetailed vertical column with a robust aluminum base that replaces the lathe’s headstock. The headstock is then mounted onto a dovetailed saddle on the vertical column, which can be adjusted vertically using a Zero Adjustable handwheel, allowing precise control over the depth of cut with calibrations to .001″ (.01mm). The workpiece is secured on the crosslide for machining.

This CNC-ready version is equipped with a stepper motor mount and coupling, prepared for the installation of a NEMA-23 frame-size stepper motor, although the motor itself is not included. The mount is designed with two flanged ball bearings and a preload nut to eliminate end play, ensuring smooth operation. For manual control, a dual shaft motor is recommended, allowing the included handwheel to be used when CNC control is unnecessary.

A notable feature of this vertical milling column is the inclusion of an oil reservoir on the saddle nut, which ensures the leadscrew remains lubricated. This attachment provides an economical entry into milling, capable of performing most standard vertical milling operations, with size being the primary constraint. The conversion process from lathe to milling is efficient, taking less than a minute.
