The Thames & Kosmos Kids First Andy: The Code & Play Robot is an engaging and educational tool designed to introduce basic programming skills in an enjoyable manner. This robot, named Andy, is ready for immediate use, requiring only three AA batteries to function.

Andy is programmed through the pressing of large, user-friendly buttons located on the top of its head, eliminating the need for an app or tablet. The robot’s movements can be controlled directly through the use of arrow keys, or by entering a sequence of up to 30 movements via the ‘Go’ button. Andy is equipped with lights and two movement modes, allowing it to travel varying distances based on the selected mode. Additionally, Andy has the ability to play music and dance, adding an element of fun to the learning experience.

The robot comes with nine robot cards that can be used to play a game once the user has grasped how Andy moves. The objective of the game is to guide Andy to locate its 27 friends, each of which requires a specific programmed path. Upon locating a friend, it can be marked off in the manual. The manual also provides information about different types of real-world robots and their functions.

The kit also offers two bonus games that can be printed at home. In these games, Andy can be programmed to find animal friends or collect food ingredients for a recipe. Furthermore, the robot can be programmed to navigate an obstacle course created in the user’s room, providing endless possibilities for fun and learning.
